Review
Jeremy Aspinall
South Africa’s Missing Persons Task Team was founded in 2005 to locate the graves of those who disappeared during the brutal apartheid years, then exhume and identify the remains so reburial can take place. In this riveting documentary, it takes four years of fieldwork to help Nombulelo Booi find the remains of her father James, last seen by her in 1963 as he was dragged away by police, just for attending two political meetings.
Closure for Nombulelo is a powerfully spiritual moment, but for the team, it’s a race against a time to help other families as offices close, documents are dumped or disintegrate, and witnesses age.
