Review

Jack Seale

Michael Fassbender’s pained spy returns, and he’s under more strain than ever. “Martian” is an American agent in London whose previous mission has compromised him for ever, because out in the field, he fell in love. With his beloved Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith) held captive in her home country of Sudan, Martian enters season two dealing with a further complication: he’s agreed to spy on his CIA bosses, on behalf of… the British!

Poised and witty rather than action-packed, it’s a thriller that loves some old-school spycraft: crosswords, codes and some fine, fine cognac feature as the US operation snakes into Iran and Russia. Dominic West, Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere do sturdy work as CIA bigwigs.
