Sharon Horgan’s comedy drama is a remake of the Belgian series Clan (shown in the UK under the title The Out-Laws), relocating the premise to Ireland.

Horgan is one of four very different but very close sisters who don’t seem at all sad that the fifth sister’s husband has just died. While flashbacks show us why they’re glad the man is dead, a life-insurance investigation threatens to reveal that they may have gone beyond simply wishing he would go away…

Offering a ready-made mix of black comedy and fractious sisterhood that’s ideal for Horgan’s trademark wry chaos, while the cast — including Claes Bang as the departed monster and Anne-Marie Duff as his widow — is first-rate.
