Review

Jane Rackham

Nicola Walker stars as DI Annika Strandhed, a slightly unconventional single parent who’s come over from Norway to head up the Scotland Marine Homicide Unit, although none of her colleagues seems happy with her appointment. She’s sharp, has a very dry sense of humour that others don’t seem to find funny and uses literary and historical references to help her solve crimes.

But what makes this series so unusual is that throughout, Annika breaks the fourth wall, sharing her observations on the case and her messy life. Although Annika isn’t your typical brusque-but-brilliant Scandi-noir detective, she’s a character you’ll want to spend some time with.
