Review

David McGillivray

What a pleasure to highlight something that might otherwise have fallen between the cracks. You may not know the name of unsung musical hero Steve Brown, who died in February, but you’ll know his work. He wrote jingles and stage musicals, including I Can’t Sing! (2014) with this tribute’s host Harry Hill.

But he was best known for parody. He was a comic songwriter who could rhyme “rural” with “epidural”. Brown worked for decades with Steve Coogan, Lenny Henry and Rory Bremner, all of whom are here to praise a unique talent. You can also hear excerpts of Brown’s work on Radio 4 shows Radio Active and In One Ear. Unmissable.
