Summary

Modern re-imagining of the Jersey-set crime drama following troubled detective Jim Bergerac (Damien Molony)

Review

David Brown

The setting may still be Jersey, and the leather jacket remains a definite feature, but this Bergerac is different and darker than the one in which John Nettles starred throughout the 1980s. Its lead detective (played with sorrowful eyes by Damien Molony) is now bereaved rather than merely divorced, and instead of having forsworn the booze, this Jim Bergerac is still wrestling with an addiction to alcohol.

But try not to let either these personality changes or the more cosmetic tweaks (father-in-law Charlie is, for example, now a mother-in-law portrayed by Zoë Wanamaker) impede your enjoyment of what’s a nicely produced, noirish crime drama.
