Episode 3: Episode 3

Summary

Myrna questions what to do with her life when the organisation she founded rejects her. Rani runs into trouble with Christian, but a trip on a booze cruise deepens their budding connection. Gabby and Greg work on plans for her festival, even as Spencer threatens to lead her astray. As Christian's enemies engage in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, a decision is made about the mysterious bag of cash

Review

David Butcher

Stephen Merchant’s series hovers between gentle, well-drawn character comedy and nasty crime thriller. That could make for an uneven tone, but thanks to deft writing, it all feels smooth and of a piece.

Tonight, for example, there are poignant moments as we learn more about activist Myrna and the protest group she founded; there are funny scenes involving Greg, the very uncool solicitor, as he tries to buy drugs (the kind of scene Merchant plays beautifully); and there is jittery tension as the after-shocks of the drug-house robbery catch up with Christian.

All over the story, the characters and their different kinds of loneliness are coming into focus.
