The footballer-turned-actor-turned-Sussex landowner is in similar territory to Clarkson’s Farm with this fly-on-the-barn-wall series, following his efforts to turn a considerable estate into a dream home. Both shows soften an abrasive public persona, but while Jeremy Clarkson tries to endear himself with incompetence, Vinnie Jones is more emotional, putting his real self — manic, impulsive — on display.

As he returns he has grand plans, but the recent death of his mother is a dark cloud in the show’s normally clear blue sky.
