The eponymous Gerri Esposito (Giulio Beranek) is a police inspector from Rome who’s now working in Puglia, in the heel of Italy. According to the novels by Giorgia Lepore, on which this mesmerising Italian crime drama is based, he has “piercing eyes and a restless soul” and is “mysterious and deeply flawed”. This means women flutter around him like moths to a flame, while he has a massive chip on his shoulder. He’s investigating the murder of the young daughter of a powerful lawyer that has similarities to another case in Bari, although his colleagues can’t see the link.

A bonus is the gorgeous Apulian backdrop.
