Scotland v Brazil

Summary

Scotland v Brazil (Kick-off 11.00pm). Kelly Cates presents coverage of the Group C match at Miami Stadium in the USA. Brazil have been far from their imperious best so far in this tournament, but still have four points from two matches, while Scotland's win against Haiti may be enough to see them qualify, irrespective of the result here. There have been 10 previous meetings between these nations, four of which have been at the World Cup, and Scotland are still seeking a first-ever victory over the Seleção. The South Americans won three of those four World Cup clashes, the most recent of which was in the opening match of France '98 when an unlucky own-goal by Tom Boyd gave Brazil a 2-1 win, after a John Collins penalty drew Scotland level following a goal in the fifth minute by Cesar Sampaio. The last time they faced each other was a 2011 friendly at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, when a teenage Neymar scored both goals in a 2-0 victory, at a time when he had yet to make his reputation as one the leading players in world football, two years before he moved to Barcelona from Santos

Review

Ned Holmes

Scotland and Brazil get their World Cup reunion as they meet at the tournament for a fifth time, in the final round of Group C fixtures.

The Scots have lost three in a row against Seleção since Billy Bremner and co earned their famous 0–0 draw in West Germany in 1974, including a 2–1 defeat in their last World Cup appearance 28 years ago.

Steve Clarke’s side are out to write new history in North America, and they’ll need no extra motivation for a World Cup clash against the five- time winners in Miami. Both teams may keep one eye on proceedings in Atlanta, where Morocco and Haiti face off in the other final Group C game.
