No, that’s not a printing error. This is a brand new run of Remarkable Places to Eat, the foodie series that last aired on BBC2 in 2021 but has now found a new home on More4.
Aside from ad breaks and the show now being sponsored by an Italian beer brand, there’s very little change. There’s still stunning food, scenery and Fred Sirieix. We’re in Italy for episode one, with Dermot O’Leary showing the First Dates maître d’ around Puglia. It’s somewhere Sirieix has never been, and where O’Leary is a “part-time resident”. Who knew?
O’Leary says the region is his happy place and it’s not hard to see why. His little black foodie book includes a coastal restaurant in Gallipoli where the scenery is as good as the Zuppa di Pesce, while inland, he has two more hidden gems up his sleeve. These off-the-beaten-track restaurants are more akin to having food at an old friend’s house, as the warm greeting O’Leary gets at their final stop testifies.
Like the cooking and the company, the result is a very relaxed and amiable hour.
