A defining modern romcom, When Harry Met Sally... pairs Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in a sharp, warm and endlessly charming story of friendship gradually becoming something more. Nora Ephron’s witty screenplay and Rob Reiner’s deft direction helped set the template for a generation of romantic comedies.
In The Descent, a group of adventurers become trapped deep in an Appalachian cave system, where something deadly lurks in the darkness. Neil Marshall’s taut, resourceful horror is unbearably tense, and definitely not for the claustrophobic or squeamish.
A film for the whole family to enjoy is fantasy comedy Matilda, which follows a brilliant young girl who discovers extraordinary powers while standing up to her neglectful parents and fearsome headmistress. Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel and directed by Danny DeVito and starring Mara Wilson, it remains a much-loved childhood classic.
After crawling through a snowy wilderness and going toe-to-claw with a Grizzly, Leonardo DiCaprio and director Alejandro González Iñárritu basked in the warm glow of awards glory for The Revenant. The plaudits were well-deserved for this truly epic film, which also features a wild-eyed Tom Hardy.
New to Prime is Rebuilding, a thoughtful neo-western drama from writer-director Max Walker-Silverman. Josh O’Connor stars as a Colorado cowboy whose life is upended by wildfire, forcing him to find strength in community while reconnecting with his ex-wife and daughter. The acclaimed Sundance film is a moving story of resilience, loss and fresh starts.
Biopic The Wizard of the Kremlin also pops up as a Prime exclusive. It tells how Vladimir Putin (played by a wig-wearing Jude Law) rose to power in the 1990s, helped by the relatively unknown scheming of one amoral power-player (Paul Dano). Intriguing and pacey, it's carried by Dano's fantastic turn.
You can also choose from Oscar-winning and -nominated fare such as Manchester by the Sea, Network and The Philadelphia Story, plus original movies such as Saltburn and Palm Springs, or feel-good pictures like hit musical Everybody's Talking about Jamie, meaning there is plenty to inspire you.
If you're looking for the best films to watch right now, then look no further. Every movie on the list below has been hand-picked by RT's team, so you will know exactly which titles you should dive into when you next log on to the streamer.
