Set against Newfoundland’s dramatic coastline, Below sees Josh Hartnett, Charlie Heaton and Mackenzie Davis tackle a mysterious creature threatening a close-knit fishing community. It’s a satisfyingly eerie blend of small-town drama, local folklore and creature-feature thrills.

The Diplomat is back for season four, making now the perfect time to discover, or revisit, Netflix’s twisty political drama. If you’re a newcomer, start at the beginning and watch Keri Russell’s reluctant ambassador Kate Wyler navigate international crises, political power plays and a turbulent marriage.

A recent arrival is East of Eden, a sweeping period drama based on John Steinbeck’s classic novel. Set in the early 1900s, it follows the turbulent Trask family across two generations as the fiercely independent Cathy Ames (played by Florence Pugh) drives a bitter rivalry between brothers Adam (Christopher Abbott) and Charles (Mike Faist), exploring themes of family, morality and free will.

An old, neglected scandal gains new power as Jodie Whittaker leads true-life drama Toxic Town about the 1980s Corby poisonings. It's a powerful tale of ordinary people on the end of a grave injustice, having to fight for their voices to be heard.

Guy Ritchie's crime-comedy drama The Gentlemen follows aristocrat Eddie Horniman (Theo James) as he discovers his inherited estate is home to a sprawling cannabis empire. With series two having recently arrived, there's never been a better time to dive into the witty, action-packed underworld.

In Hostage, Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy go full throttle in a pacy political thriller that’s low on plausibility but high on action. The new-ish British Prime Minister (Jones) hasn’t been in office long when she’s faced with a crisis very close to home. She calls on the French President (Delpy) for help, but can she be trusted?

And there are still plenty of other options available on the platform. As well as mushc-loved hits such as Stranger Things, The Crown and Black Mirror, you could try fantastical horror Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, gritty Norwegian crime drama Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole or stylish thriller The Beast in Me.
