Long before streaming services, algorithms and endless choice, there were films that became part of family life, watched constantly on a worn-out VHS cassette. Few modern films have earned a place in our collective memory quite like the Toy Story series.

This week's cover story marks the return of Woody, Buzz and friends to the big screen. Three decades after they first appeared, these characters continue to mean a huge amount to children who are discovering them afresh and to adults who adored them when they were kids.
What makes Toy Story stand out is its understanding of something universal: the relationships we form when young, the toys we cherished and the way we have to inevitably grow up. As the series returns, those themes feel as relevant as ever.
I'm particularly delighted that the cover feature was written by Laura Rutkowski. For Laura, this assignment was the culmination of a lifelong love for these films and the world that Pixar created.
We are often told never to meet our heroes, yet Laura's experience is a reminder that, occasionally, those encounters can surpass expectations. The enthusiasm Laura shows in her conversations with the cast and Pixar's artists and production staff shine out from every page.

And before I go I want to recommend the World Cup snacks the brilliant Max 'King of the sandwich' Halley has created exclusively for RT for this week's games involving England and Scotland. I can personally vouch for how tasty they are. (There have to be some perks in this job.) Enjoy!
