Warner Bros has announced that they will be reuniting Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup for a new animated Powerpuff Girls movie 30 years after the original series premiered.

The company teased the news at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (via Variety), though no plot, release date or casting information was given.
An insider confirmed to the publication that a film is in the works but stressed that there's no deal in place.
Craig McCracken’s original animated series launched its pilot in 1995 and ran for six seasons, going on to become a global phenomenon and bagging two Emmys.
The plot followed three chemically-enhanced sisters who were created by Professor Utonium, who, as the story goes, mixed together sugar, spice and everything nice. But when he accidentally spilled a mysterious ingredient called Chemical X into the mixture, the Powerpuff Girls were born.
The show follows the trio as they protect Townsville from monsters, mutants and other forces of evil.

While the original series was an enormous success, the super-powered sisters have had a sketchy track record ever since, with Warner Bros' The Powerpuff Girls Movie proving to be a big flop when it was released in 2002. The film generated $16 million against an $11 million budget.
In 2016, a live-action reboot series was announced to be in development at The CW - and it was going to take a different approach than the original series.

Instead of following the trio as children as the animated show had, the live-action adaptation was going to focus on the girls in their 20s, with Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault starring as Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup.
But the adaptation faced numerous obstacles, including backlash to the leaked script and criticism of set photos, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the project before the pilot aired.
Having only just been announced, there are currently no further details regarding a plot, cast or potential release date.
