With Stranger Things having wrapped up for good following its final season at the end of last year, creators Matt and Ross Duffer are moving on to new projects – and one of them has just announced a release date.

The brothers are shifting from the small to the silver screen with a mysterious new movie they will both write and direct, although little has been revealed beyond the fact it is being marketed as "an event film."

The film – which is the first in the pair's new deal with Paramount – has been dated for 3 November 2028, so there's still quite a long while to wait (although Stranger Things fans are rather used to long gaps by now).

The brothers signed the exclusive deal with Paramount in August last year, with the agreement seeing them making projects across film, TV and streaming under their Upside Down Pictures banner.

It has been reported that it was the chance to make films with theatrical windows had been part of the appeal for the Duffers when it came to making the leap from Netflix.

On announcing the deal last year, they said that their new employers were "passionate about bringing bold, original films to the big screen" adding that the opportunity "to do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don’t take lightly."

In the time since Stranger Things released its final episodes, the pair have served as executive prodcuers on three further shows on Netflix: Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, The Boroughs, and animated Stranger Things spin-off Tales from '85.

It will be interesting to see quite what their new film involves – and we'll be sure to report any further updates as and when...
