Tom Holland has named the star who could succeed him as Spider-Man when he finally hangs up his suit.

The actor, who has played Peter Parker in the film franchise since 2016's Captain America: Civil War, is set to launch back onto screens this summer in Spider Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking to Esquire in a new interview about who could take on the mantle when he’s gone, Holland named Adolescence star Owen Cooper, saying the young actor would be “awesome” in the role.
“Obviously, he’s super-talented and he’s the talk of the town right now," Holland said.
He added that he’d love to remain involved in the franchise when his stint ends and would love to be a producer, but said it's "pretty tough to get a producing credit on future movies".
He added: "In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next.”

Cooper rose to stardom last year with his performance in acclaimed Netflix series Adolescence, in which he played Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who is arrested for murdering a girl from his school.
The role, which marked not only his first ever on-screen role, but also his first acting job, went on to win him the Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie – and saw him make history as the youngest male ever to do so.

Since then, Cooper has gone on to appear in the likes of Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights and the BBC’s Film Club.
Cooper previously expressed interest in taking over from Holland, telling Variety last year: “I'd like to do it, but not for a good long time, like 10-15 years."
He added: "But that's only when Tom Holland backs off."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to release in cinemas in July, will follow Peter as he struggles with his identity following the events of No Way Home.
Speaking virtually at industry event CinemaCon, Holland teased that the upcoming movie is the "most emotional Spider-Man, and in some ways, the most grown up" to date (via Deadline).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on 31 July 2026.
