It is directed by Molly Manners, who makes her film debut after helming four episodes of hit Netflix book adaptation One Day, and the well-received Waitrose Christmas advert from last year starring Keira Knightley and Joe Wilkinson, The Perfect Gift.

The synopsis for Extra Geography reads: "In an English girls boarding school, teenage best friends Flic and Minna are high achievers with big expectations. But getting good grades isn't enough.

"As they grapple with the challenges of girlhood — friendship, boys, studies, and growing up — they embark on their self-assigned summer project: falling in love."

Now, Radio Times has got an exclusive first look at the trailer, which you can watch at the top of this page right now.

The trailer introduces us to Flic and Minna who, upon deciding to fall in love, end up by chance choosing their geography teacher Miss Delavigne as the object of their desires.

However, as Flic continues her quest and Minna gets closer with a boy, their friendship appears to be tested, with Flic arguing that the whole challenge was Minna's idea, and she "didn't plan to fall in love until I was 25".

The film stars Alice Englert (Star City), Marni Duggan, Galaxie Clear (Secret Service), Iyla Sundarsingh McKaig (Toxic Town) and Aarti Panesar.

Meanwhile, the script comes from Miriam Battye, who has previously written for series including Dead Ringers, Succession and The Woman in the Wall. She is also writing the upcoming Apple TV show The Husbands, starring Ted Lasso's Juno Temple.

It has received critical acclaim since its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, with the film sitting at a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes from 21 reviews.

Variety's review called it "uncompromisingly sharp-tongued", while The Guardian's said that "there’s a refreshing bittersweetness to the girls’ bond".

Extra Geography will be released in UK cinemas on 2 October.
