Summary

Following the success of the derivative yet entertaining Kaante, director Sanjay Gupta returns with another pulverising, fast-paced and slickly edited action thriller. Anil Kapoor stars as the mysterious drifter who arrives in Goa and becomes implicated in a drug-deal conspiracy involving local girlfriend Koena Mitra and drug lord Sanjay Dutt. Mahesh Manjrekar and Aditya Pancholi lend practised support, with Sameera Reddy providing the most compelling performance as an abused wife. Ambitious, unrelenting and inventive, Gupta's flashy thriller transcends genre clichés and blends in several musical interludes to put across its searing message. Gupta shepherds his wealth of characters well, and like the aforementioned Kaante, Musafir helped to move Hindi cinema into newer pastures by drawing on Western practices and techniques to eye-catching effect.
