Summary

Drama starring Natey Jones and Alexandra Burke. Aspiring singer Candice lands an audition for a major new stage musical, and is overjoyed when her boyfriend, Travis, buys her a beautiful garment to celebrate. The couple soon faces a challenge, though, when Travis tries on the dress and finds that he enjoys wearing it.

The feature debut from writer/director Dionne Edwards is an engaging, south London-set drama about finding inner freedom. Fresh out of jail, Travis (Natey Jones) returns to his partner Candice (Alexandra Burke), an aspiring singer who is dealing with their rebellious teenage daughter (Temilola Olatunbosun) and auditioning for the role of Tina Turner in a musical. But Candice soon has another issue, when she catches Travis wearing the red dress he buys her. He claims he was preparing for a prank, but it becomes clear that his love of female attire is deep-seated. Edwards crafts a provocative drama about self-expression, and she draws a fabulous performance from Jones as a man struggling with his gender identity. Likewise, 2008 X Factor winner Burke is an absolute knockout. Her renditions of Turner classics such as River Deep - Mountain High are euphoric, but it's her performance as a frazzled mother and partner that really impresses.
