An actor and a politician engage in risky public sexcapades in this melodramatic Brazilian film from directing duo Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher (Hard Paint). Matias (Gabriel Faryas) is a theatre actor who dreams of making it big on TV, while Rafael (Cirillo Luna) is ramping up his campaign to become mayor of Porto Alegre. Neither wants a relationship, but they are bonded by their attraction to the danger of having sex in public places. It's thematically rich terrain, and provocative to a degree. There is a clever idea here, as the film-makers seek to shatter the narrative of gay men forced to keep their sexuality behind closed doors, particularly if they want to be successful in public roles. There's also no denying the chemistry between Faryas and Luna, who bring much depth to their underwritten characters. However, the story is dramatically thin, spending too much time on a tedious subplot involving Matias's competition with an acting rival (Henrique Barreira). A shame, because while the film flirts with edgy, timely topics, it fails to take the kinds of risks that would make it thrilling instead of merely intriguing.
