Summary
Horror thriller starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. FBI agent Lee Harker draws on her sense of psychic intuition when she is assigned to investigate the ritualistic murders of a serial killer who refers to himself as "Longlegs". As the occult overtones of these killings become evident, Harker realises something more: Longlegs could be connected to her own personal history.

This impeccably crafted film from writer/director Oz Perkins is a masterclass in atmospheric horror. It follows intrepid FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she looks into an unsolved case that has been puzzling the bureau for years. What starts as a grisly investigation soon takes a demonic turn that shifts things into the realm of the supernatural, with Harker realising she has a personal connection with the killer known only as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). Buried under prosthetics but still recognisable, Cage gives an uncanny, amped-up performance that ranks as one of his finest - his character is an instant horror classic. A serial-killer thriller in the mould of The Silence of the Lambs, the film contains a couple of well-executed jump scares and some very gory imagery. Ultimately, though, it's the slow-burning build-up of dread, and the inescapable bleakness of the film's subject matter, that gets under the skin. Not every narrative decision works, but as a terrifying exploration of the nature of evil, Longlegs is a triumph.
