A failing Somerset pub gets a boost when the owner's prodigal son returns with a plan to brew a hit beer in this familiar feel-good British comedy. Martin Clunes is Mick, the curmudgeonly landlord of the Drovers Arms. With bills mounting up, Mick and his morris-dancing son Jake (James Buckley) are at a loss. It's only when Mick's other son, Cal (Jonno Davies), a failed pop star, reappears from self-imposed exile and unearths an old family recipe that they stand any chance of survival. Directed by Nick Moorcroft (Fisherman's Friends: One and All), this is a cosy regional affair with few surprises but plenty of charm. The script, by Moorcroft and Meg Leonard, is a little too overstuffed - family grief, mental health, and single parenthood are all squeezed in - and the innuendo in some scenes can get a bit tiresome. But with a pleasing-to-the-eye cast - Mark Addy, Josie Lawrence, and Luke Treadaway all feature - it slips down as pleasantly as a cheeky light ale.
