Summary

Robin Brooks' adaptation of Nancy Mitford's classic comic love story. A penniless writer tries to trick his way into Christmas at the country house of the snobbish Lady Bobbin so he can research a book on her ancestor. However, the deception is threatened when he falls for his host's daughter. Starring James Anthony-Rose

Review

Anna Jones

Nancy Mitford wrote this seasonal short story for cash, and while it doesn’t compare with The Pursuit of Love, it does display her masterful wit and her acute observations of the British class system. Recorded on location in Suffolk, it’s the definition of a festive frolic, as the doomed liaisons and comic misunderstandings build to a rather levelling conclusion.

Hilary Greatorex voices Mitford, while Charlotte Parry steals the show as all-knowing ex-courtesan Amabelle Fortescue.
