Ashley Greene heads the cast of this slow-burn chiller as a "psychic psychiatrist" battling a malevolent presence preying on a young patient (Shayelin Martin). Fearing a case of demonic possession, the doctor must find a way to thwart the supernatural entity before it moves on to "feed" on her own daughter (Ellie O'Brien). Filmed largely in shadowy dark hues, the yarn is comparatively light on gore (although bite marks on Martin's arm look unsettlingly real) and favours eliciting frights from what viewers can't see. Having said that, writer/director Chad Archibald manages to deliver intermittent jolts via glimpses of the wraithlike creature tormenting the women. Greene is no stranger to cinematic spookiness from her regular appearances as a vampire in the Twilight film franchise, but It Feeds is less soft-focus melodrama and more sinister in execution. It doesn't especially break any new ground in horror and the narrative will be familiar to fans of the genre, but it looks stylish and the script affords the leads opportunities to display some real acting talent.
