Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

David Parkinson

Based on the Jules Verne novel A Fifteen Years Old Captain, this frantic Spanish-made adventure just about survives the fact that the dialogue has been dubbed, and does provide a few thrills amid the endless spills. Ships slip into Davy Jones's locker with monotonous regularity in the opening scenes, as six youngsters, heading for reunions with their parents in Australia, fall foul of pirates, storms and an unfriendly whale. But that's nothing compared to the African flesh-eating ants that await them when they encounter old sea dog Frank Brana, who is also a slave trader in his spare time. More ramshackle than swashbuckle.
