Summary

Action thriller directed by and starring Dev Patel. A nameless young man known only as Kid makes his living as a masked participant at a seedy underground fight club where he is beaten up regularly. But there is method in his madness, as he works toward exacting revenge against those responsible for his traumatic past.

Dev Patel proves himself to be a man of many talents with this assured and thrilling directorial debut. A violent action revenge drama that pulls no punches, the film follows a man known as Kid (Patel), who earns a modest living by dressing up and being beaten in an underground fight club in India. Behind his Hindu-legend inspired gorilla mask, though, lies a will to exact revenge on the country's elite who wronged him as a child. As Kid infiltrates a sinister underworld that stretches into policing and politics ahead of an election, the reasons behind his bloody one-man mission become clear. As actor and writer, Patel adds a soulful touch to the brutality, but it's as director that he really impresses. The kinetic action is inventively staged and there is a textured cultural backdrop to every punch thrown and bullet shot.
