Temperatures are rising in this Canadian-made thriller, as a young woman with a chequered past lands her dream job but then begins an affair with her boss's wife. Kat Graham's ambitious newbie leverages a waterfront real-estate deal that wins her major kudos from property magnate boss Sebastian Roché. But will her secret love life and criminal past come back to haunt her? For the first half-hour, this moderately cast time-passer is engaging enough, with a sympathetic lead, a gnarly backstory and a few hints that it's all going to get that bit darker. However, it peaks at the midpoint after pulling off an eyebrow-raising twist. From there, the plot coagulates, the coincidences pile up, and the direction overstates every bit of stodgy exposition just so we get the point. With one groan-worthy reveal after another, the film soon fritters away its promise, resulting in a decidedly tepid - rather than scorching - tale.
