Guy Ritchie directs this humorous adventure romp, which draws clear inspiration from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. From childhood, Luke and Charlotte Purdue were raised by their treasure-hunter dad. Now, though, the grown-up Charlotte (Natalie Portman) has sworn off exploring and is going through a nasty divorce. Meanwhile, her brother Luke (John Krasinski) still spends his time roaming the globe in search of artefacts to steal, and his latest quest is to find the fabled fountain of youth. It's not long before Charlotte joins the hunt and soon we're in National Treasure mode as the pair follow clues set by ancient puzzles. It's all very silly, with frantic pacing and ludicrous shoot-outs. However, Ritchie stages the many action sequences with his usual flair, from a punch-up on a sinking ship to a hand-to-hand scrap between Luke and the mysterious Esme (Eiza González). While the film wobbles at the end in a murky mess of CGI, Portman and Krasinski make a likeable double act, and the result is perfect Sunday afternoon entertainment for all the family.
