A comedy version of Die Hard set at a wedding, with Rebel Wilson in the Bruce Willis role? On paper, this is Leonardo da Vinci-level genius. In execution, however, it's a disappointingly unfunny mess. Wilson plays Sam, a secret agent attending the wedding of her best friend Betsy (Anna Camp). As the vows are exchanged, an armed gang led by Kurt (Stephen Dorff) crashes the event to steal the gold bullion sitting in the family's safe. It's up to Sam to save the day, playing cat and mouse with the thieves. "She's using the chocolate fountain as cover!" yells Kurt at one point - a rare funny moment. The problem here is Wilson's customary crass, genital-obsessed humour, which clashes with the silly, aimed-at-children energy of the rest of the film. And while her fight scenes are decent enough (she did many of the stunts herself) it's as though someone dropped a wannabe John Wick among the screeching kids from The Goonies. The end result? Less "Yippee-ki-yay!" and more "Oh, go away."
