Filmed on the south Atlantic coast of the United States, this blue-collar crime drama ticks along with solid, unpretentious concision. It follows likeable young parolee Dovey (Darren Mann) as he does a favour for his grizzled prison pal, Ray (Dermot Mulroney), at great risk to his new-found freedom. But Ray has omitted a few key details from his backstory, so when Dovey tracks down his buddy's supposed daughter (Alyssa Goss), he soon sets off a rather dangerous chain of events. Some sound twists mount alongside a tottering heap of crime clichés, but it's all handled slickly by writer/director James Rowe, bolstering his tale with a melodic country soundtrack and moody shots of the distinctive coastline. Meanwhile, the always watchable Mulroney nails the film's tone: earnest and ludicrous in equal measure.
