Romanian man Cristi (Tudor Cucu-Dumitrescu) and Kurdish man Yusuf (Erdal Yildiz) take a trip into the Yorkshire countryside to dispose of a body in this Bafta-nominated drama from debut feature director Jack King. Exactly how the pair will get rid of the body is the main question - Cristi wants to throw the late Nassar, his former friend, into a well. However, Yusuf, despite not having had a personal relationship with the man, insists he must be buried. Shot in monochrome, the film's landscapes are both beautiful and foreboding, as is everything about this challenging but heart-wrenching movie. It offers a quiet meditation on what it means to be a person when you have nothing, and are deemed by society to have no value - the deceased died by his own hand and his only contacts are illegal immigrants. Displacement, past trauma and individual morality come into question in this gorgeous, slow-burn but at times still dizzying treatise on nothing less than life, death and humanity. Tough but worth it.
