A spate of killings at a California drive-in cinema confounds the police in this shoddy proto-slasher. Couples are being sliced and diced - but who's wielding the blade? Is it the venue's callous manager, who loathes his employees as much as he does his "degenerate" audience? Could it be the "halfwit" caretaker, a former carnival sword swallower? Or perhaps it's the local pervert? Director StuSegall, best known for genre schlock and adult entertainment, cranked out this ultra low-budget affair for the same kind of drive-in as its setting. Though the kills - a gleaming sabre, a splash of claret - are charmingly DIY, they're let down by borderline unintelligible dialogue, a lack of an emotional centre and a pace that never threatens to hit the speed limit. Those who respect their time are advised to steer clear; but die-hard film freaks, may get some mileage from Drive-in Massacre's trashy atmosphere, crazed turn from genre icon George "Buck" Flower and inspired gimmick ending.
