A star rating of 3 out of 5.

After making various films in Hong Kong, British-born director Po Chih Leong focuses on London's Chinatown for this meandering but playful culture-clash drama. When the father of a moneyed family is discovered dead in a phone box, law clerk Elaine (Lucy Sheen) is hired to execute his will. But how can she convince the late restaurateur's family to honour his wishes? And who is the unknown woman named in his bequests? A seriocomic mystery follows as Elaine locates the family members, bouncing between them like a table-tennis ball, but this isn't quite the thriller it initially seems to be. Instead, the film's focus becomes Elaine's journey of cultural self-discovery, and a winning romance develops as she bonds with the late man's son (David Yip). The plot is loose and the direction occasionally flat, but with flashes of wry surrealism, this is an engaging, amiable and quirky portrait of displacement and reconciliation.
