A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Jayne Nelson

Twenty years ago, Vince (Ed Skrein) rocked the world in a successful boy band. Now he lives in a grotty flat in Peckham, perpetually skint and always hustling for one more shot at fame. Vince's bad luck starts to change when he meets autistic teenage drummer Stevie (Leo Long, who is neurodiverse in real life and an excellent musician). A gig in a local pub might not seem like the surest road back to stardom, but Vince will take what he can get, even as Stevie's mother (Eleanor Matsuura) determines to protect her son from him. There aren't many surprises here: the plot moves doggedly from one obvious beat to another, snacking liberally on Richard Curtis themes along the way. But the film sparkles thanks to Skrein's committed, sensitive performance - he is so sensational, you wonder why he isn't more famous himself.
