If the horsemeat scare hasn't put you off eating beef, then Close Encounters actor-turned-director Bob Balaban's grim horror comedy certainly will. Could young Michael's suburban parents really be the cannibals he thinks they are? Or is he just a disturbed child suffering from juvenile hallucinations brought on by the atom-age anxieties of the Eisenhower 1950s? Set firmly in Blue Velvet territory, with a spot-on big band Muzak soundtrack, this disquieting explosion of the nuclear family unit will have you screaming with both laughter and revulsion. And those horrifying meat close-ups - yikes!
