Bridegroom-to-be jazz pianist Richard Carlson spins out of control when a blackmailing ex-girlfriend falls to her death from a lighthouse in this melodramatic psychological thriller. After opting not to report her demise to the authorities, the musician is haunted by his erstwhile paramour in the form of footprints on the beach, gramophone records that play by themselves and sundry other unexplained apparitions. With his wedding just days away, and a beatnik boatman arriving on the scene asking questions about the missing woman, will he be able to escape the vengeful spirit and live happily ever after? Perhaps best known for science-fiction monster movies, director Bert I Gordon is more restrained here, staging the action like a vintage Victorian ghost story. The film is given a contemporary tone thanks to Albert Glasser's booming jazz score and characters speaking in beat poet slang. However, the haunting at the heart of the matter is cut from more traditional cloth, embellished by primitive but effective camera trickery.
