Summary

Krypto the Super-Dog fights alongside Superman in Metropolis, thwarting the evil schemes of arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Disharmony ripples across Metropolis just as Luthor's former laboratory guinea pig, Lulu, enacts her scheme to abduct the Man of Steel and members of the Justice League. Krypto temporarily loses his abilities and places his trust in a misfit team of newly superpowered animal shelter escapees to save the day. Animated comedy adventure, featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer and Natasha Lyonne

Superman, Batman and the rest of DC's Justice League take a back seat for this animated feature that proves every dog has its day. The canine in question is Krypto, a labrador retriever (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) with flying powers who belongs to the Man of Steel (John Krasinski). Facing off with Lulu (Kate McKinnon), a hairless guinea pig who threatens world domination, Krypto is joined on this rescue mission by streetwise dog Ace (Kevin Hart) and his friends: a nervy squirrel (Diego Luna), a shy pig (Vanessa Bayer) and a half-blind turtle (Natasha Lyonne). Director and writer Jared Stern has form with irreverent tie-ins, although this one isn't quite as savvy as 2017's The Lego Batman Movie, which he co-wrote. That said, Keanu Reeves has a riot voicing the Dark Knight, ribbing the character's Gotham gloom, while fans should revel in the nerdy nods to DC lore. The jokes are plentiful, but with more characters than a Comic-Con panel, the film slightly loses its way in the second half, as high-speed save-the-day action takes precedence over emotion.
