No, not "that" Robin Hood. This one, played by Darcey Ewart, is only 11 years old. She lives a rich fantasy life with her friends, the Hoods, on the wooded land at the end of their road. As she leads her gang in pretend life-or-death fights against another group of children, real life merges with Lord of the Rings-style fantasy in their heads - bikes become horses, phones summon magic spells. All this is threatened by Naomie Harris's dastardly land developer, who wants to bulldoze the forest, so unless the kids can prove that a rare bird lives among the trees, their kingdom will be lost forever. Bursting with gentle British humour, the film's melding of reality and fantasy is smartly rendered. The kids also hold their own against the likes of Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie and Harry Potter's Mark Williams. Other than a few unnecessary fat-shaming jokes, it's a lovely adventure.
