This Christmas confection is bulging with situations that only happen in movies. When Sydney Price (Minka Kelly) is dispatched to Paris by an equity company to acquire champane domain Chateau Cassell on the cheap, she falls for a stranger in a cosy backstreet bookshop. However, she only discovers that Henri (Tom Wozniczka) is the heir to the company when he turns up at a meeting with his father, Hugo (Thibault de Montalembert), along with Sydney'srivals for the bid, a formidable Frenchwoman (Astrid Whettnall), a stereotypicalGerman (Flula Borg), and a party-mad gay billionaire (Sean Amsing). When Hugo decides to shift the negotiations to the snow-dusted vineyard, the cornball reaches knee deep, with a cute Scottiedog scampering up to ensure we get just how adorable this all is. It should be unwatchable slush. But, as he did with Love in the Villa (2022), writer/director Mark Steven Johnson tempers sentiment with wit, while coaxing relaxed performances and making the most of some splendid locations.
