A woman in her 50s begins a new relationship in this charming, if sometimes wayward, character study. Sue (Maggie O'Neill) meets biker Ron (Tony Pitts) at her brother's funeral and becomes drawn to him. But that means dealing with Ron's son, Anthony (Harry Trevaldwyn), a flamboyant social media influencer who is the polar opposite of his taciturn father. The dynamic between the trio brings both excruciating humour and emotional heft to a story of faintly lost souls. Writer/director Leo Leigh, the son of veteran film-maker Mike Leigh and actor Alison Steadman, doesn't quite shake off the influence of his parents, especially his father's penchant for turning the microscope on British suburbia. But the performances see the film through. O'Neill (Shameless, EastEnders) gives a dignified portrait of a woman seeking love after years of disappointment, while Trevaldwyn (The Outlaws) is a hoot as the over-the-top vlogger, even if he sometimes skates close to grating caricature.
