Summary

Crime drama starring Ayoub Elaïd and Abdellatif Masstouri. In Casablanca, downtrodden petty criminal Hassan is tasked with abducting a local gang member and enlists his son Issam to help. The plan quickly goes awry and the kidnappers find themselves with a body on their hands. Worse still, they have only a few hours with which to dispose of the corpse before daylight breaks.

This pacey Moroccan thriller follows the nightmare that ensues when Hassan (Abdellatif Masstouri) persuades his son Issam (Ayoub Elaid) to help him carry out a task for a vengeful crime boss (Abdellatif Lebkiri). With the pair ill-equipped for the kidnapping they've been hired to handle, it's no surprise when things don't go to plan and they end up on a race against time before morning. Gritty and intermittently violent, this modern noir follows its characters through the twisty streets of Casablanca and beyond, as both men find their moral and spiritual compasses spinning out of control. Writer/director Kamal Lazraq mines the father/son relationship for tension as Hassan's impulsive actions and dismissal of the more cautious Issam persist in hindering their progress. Lazraq spikes the bleak mood with judicious moments of mordant humour, while never letting the tension slacken, even as dawn breaks.
