Hungry sharks threaten five young women in this watery thriller. First, however, we meet couple Meg (Hiftu Quasem) and Kayla (Natalie Mitson) - just as they're subjected to a homophobic attack that leads to their breaking up. A year later they meet again, awkwardly, arriving at a Caribbean resort for a friend's wedding. Bridesmaid Cam (Nicole Rieko Setsuko) organises a "bonding" trip to a secluded island, but things go south fast when one of the group is bitten by a shark; disaster strikes again when their boat sinks on the way to get help. Now, the women are bobbing in the sea, ready to be chomped by any passing fish. We've seen all this before, of course, in everything from Open Water to the famous USS Indianapolis speech in Jaws. But that doesn't mean this isn't watchable; the tension is high, the actors give their all, and the characters' plight is compelling. On the downside, the central couple's issues seem bolted on from another story, the dialogue is often unconvincing and the low-budget sharks are very, very silly.
