This gripping French crime drama stars Bastien Bouillon as Yohan Vivès, an ambitious police captain whose first case as the head of the Grenoble murder squad is the brutal slaying of a young woman with a complex past. As he delves deeper into the victim's life, Vivès struggles to maintain a professional approach, and his investigation snowballs towards obsession. Inspired by a true story, and winner of six French Césars (including best film), this starts out as a typical police procedural but becomes something much more unsettling and thought-provoking. Viewers may find some scenes disturbing, but the violence is never gratuitous, and is perfectly judged to serve the narrative of how a shocking death can derail the people tasked with solving it. Bouillon flits convincingly between charismatic and awkward as the cop facing his own dark night of the soul, and there's solid support from Bouli Lanners as Marceau, Vivès's jaded veteran partner.
