The good thing about quota quickies is they don't outstay their welcome. Director Walter Tennyson certainly packs plenty into this lively 45-minute whodunnit, including a couple of red herrings and a running joke about a tricycle. Arriving in Middle Wickering for a fishing holiday, Scotland Yard inspector Anthony Hulme and reporter pal C Denier Warren find themselves searching for a corpse after a butler rushes into the local inn to report the death by poisoning of the occupant of a nearby country mansion. When a body does turn up, however, it belongs to the local taxi driver and Hulme becomes convinced that one of his fellow guests is not only involved but behind an art smuggling ring, too. The climactic auction feels a bit dashed off. But the encounters with boastful angler Hamilton Keene and haughty secretary Evelyn Foster are well handled, as is the knockabout business with the doltish village bobby (Ernest Sefton) and the owner of the trike (Frank Atkinson).
