Summary

Psychological thriller starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. When tech billionaire Slater King invites cocktail waitress Frida and her friend Jess to his private island, it seems like a party-haven paradise. But as various female attendees suffer memory lapses and Jess goes missing, Frida suspects dark intentions behind the friendly facade.

Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Jeremy Aspinall

A tech mogul's spontaneous invitation to his private island paradise seems too good to be true for two jobbing waitresses in this mind-bending mystery thriller. Certainly, as wide-eyed pals Frida and Jess (Naomi Ackie and Alia Shawkat) revel in pampered luxury and a constant diet of drugs, booze and partying with laid-back tycoon Slater King (an effortlessly charming Channing Tatum) and his fellow merrymakers, there seems no end to the Bacchanalian delight. But when one of the partygoers vanishes, life in paradise begins to take a turn. Making a confident and thought-provoking directorial debut, actor Zoë Kravitz (The Batman) benefits from a support cast to die for, with genre veterans Christian Slater, Geena Davis, Kyle MacLachlan and Haley Joel Osment all on the island guest list. Meanwhile, stylish visuals and foreboding sound deftly tease out the mystery until a furious finale reveals the sinister truth.
