James Mottram

An amnesiac wakes up in a trashed hotel room with a dead body in the bath in this chaotic and violent thriller. Scottish actor John Hannah stars as Karl, a suited-and-booted type with zero memory of how he got into this mess. With bandages on his chest from an unexplained operation, he flees the scene of the crime, with the help of maid Molly (Radha Mitchell), to embark on a bloody journey that takes him through lurid London spots and into his own heart of darkness. Director Cheung Chee Keong (Redcon-1) goes the Hardcore Henry route by shooting the action first-person and switching between multiple characters. The result is dizzying, disorienting and sometimes draining. Styled like a shoot-em-up video game (text on the screen even crosses out dead characters' names and notches up kills), there's little time for subtlety in this assault on the senses. However, Hannah's charm, and the late arrival of Tamer Hassan as another gangster, at least offers light relief.
