Don't let something like logic and plausibility ruin your enjoyment of this ludicrously off-the-wall crime caper from Derrick Borte who directed Russell Crowe in 2020's Unhinged. Here, Crowe stars as an Albanian nightclub owner who's doing a bit of money laundering on the side for a gangster family in LA. After a cardiac incident, he and his much younger girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) decide they want out of the whole game, but it's not going to be that easy. A classy ensemble cast including Luke Evans, Aaron Paul and Nina Dobrev juggle with a shonky script involving corrupt cops, a reluctant robber and a thrill seeker who thinks she's in Point Break, making this a well-shot but derivative thriller. Although he's clearly a wrong'un, Crowe pulls off a performance that makes him a lovable lump who you very much want to succeed. Plus: it's funny. Not great in terms of its depiction of women (though Palmer proves her worth) but a frenetic, glossy diversion of a film, nonetheless.
