Richard Crenna stars as the titular burglar in this made-for-TV movie. On the surface, Crenna's Neal Wilkinson seems to have it all: a nice house, a good job and a great girlfriend, Jean (Angie Dickinson). But really, he's a mess. Recently released from jail, he's about to head back there unless he can cover some dodgy cheques and avoid arrest. We follow Neal over the course of a few days as he struggles to raise the cash by any means necessary, including gambling in Reno and performing a heist. Along the way, he's haunted by nefarious characters, terrible decisions and his own conscience. There's not much overall story and the slow pacing is typical of the era's TV films, but Crenna and Dickinson are convincing headliners. The breaking-and-entering sequences are tense, too. The end result is forgettable, with only the movie's final scenes offering any surprises.
