Summary
Action crime thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González. Struggling with money, ex-US Marine Will Sharp joins his criminal brother, Danny, on a bank heist. When the job goes wrong, the pair hijack a medical vehicle that has arrived at the scene. Speeding through Los Angeles with a paramedic and her patient in tow, Will and Danny face a series of increasingly chaotic obstacles to their freedom.

Writer/director Michael Bay (Armageddon, the Transformers series) is often maligned for his over-the-top action, but this high-octane blockbuster is his most fun film since The Rock (1996). Although it's based on a Danish thriller, Bay transplants the action to Los Angeles for a pulpy crime tale indebted to Heat and Speed. When career criminal Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his war veteran brother Will (The Matrix Resurrections' Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) steal $32 million from a bank, they hijack an ambulance as a getaway car. The catch? A paramedic (Eiza González) and an injured cop are in the back. The subsequent action is more exhilarating than exhausting, despite the flaws of a bloated running time and a script looking for laughs amid the fire and fury. But with Gyllenhaal giving an amped-up performance and the director demonstrating his assured eye for a stunt, this dose of "Bayhem" remains enjoyable for all its spectacularly silly popcorn thrills.
